In 1702 waren twee tapirs uit Bear-Bishes (Berbice) te zien in Engeland. Berbice was een Nederlandse kolonie ten westen van Suriname. De dieren werden in een advertentie 'Kaamas's' genoemd, kama is het arowakse woord voor tapir. #worldtapirday

Museum Plantin-Moretus we preserve these 3 woodblocks with biblical maps of the Holy Land. They are not found in Plantin's editions of the Bible. Neither the existing literature on maps in Bibles nor Google Lens could help us link these maps to a Bible edition. Can you help us?

#OTD in 1444, painter Robert Campin died. One my favourite paintings he made is the portrait of (probably) Flemish aristocrat Robrecht van Massemen. Just because the man is portrayed with all his flaws.

Open now: an exhibition on film photo novels in the University Library, till 9 June 2024. Exhibition made by MA students Cultural Studies, under the guidance of prof. em. Jan Baetens. Thanks to him, Special Collections acquired a nice collection of these titles.
