When a Government announces a negative decision on Casement Park at 7.10pm on a Friday evening, it is news management at the highest level. The decision was hardly taken this afternoon.

Unfortunate but unsurprising decision by the British government not to fund Casement. Energises arguments for an alternative constitutional framework that can deliver the investments and policy changes that are badly needed in the North.

Now I know we can’t see a United Ireland as the solution to all our ills. But tonight, as Dublin plans what on earth to do with its EXTRA €14bill, you can’t help wishing for the choice to give it a chance instead of being caught up in London’s gloom and glum
