Genuine question: Do folks see Scream movies for the labryinthian continuity and the continuation of the Prescott legacy? Or do they go to see a dude in a cool mask kill people by weaponing horror conceits? The last few films have had virtually nothing to say about the genre.

One of my favorite authors make a fair point.

I often lay in bed at night and ponder life's most nagging existential question: Why was there never a final Hannibal novel in which Will Graham was tasked with finding Clarice Starling and working with her to escape Lecter's influence?

The issue with the Scream franchise is that it's become a meditation on generational trauma -- how a tragedy creates a killer whose tragedies create a killer (as if psychopath were a light-switch) -- and veered from having anything to say or weaponize about the genre itself.

Just saw somebody comment on this that nobody who watches Star Trek watches Dr. Who... I've written for Star Trek and I have, I dunno, about a thousand pitches for Who that I would write tomorrow FOR FREE just to play in that sandbox. Of course folks want this.
