There will be many elections in 2024. Some politicians are already using the slogan of “invasion” by migrants and refugees to gain votes. That argument is both wrong and useless in responding to the challenges of human mobility. Solutions exist and can be just and effective.

Tech companies must stop amplifying & profiting from the spread of disinformation & other harmful content. Our forthcoming code of conduct for information integrity will help make the digital space inclusive & safer for all, while defending the right to freedom of expression.

Misinformation, disinformation and hate speech are fueling prejudice and violence, exacerbating divisions and conflicts, and demonizing minorities. Refugees are common targets. The UN Global Principles for Information Integrity will help power responses + drive accountability.

The violence seen in the UK in the past few days, including against asylum seekers, is shocking — and so are the fake news which fueled it. Everyone without distinction has the right to feel safe in their communities and to live free from hate, fear and intolerance.
