I didn't know this paper... >300 people refereed the same economics paper, with author listed as 1. an early career scholar 2. anonymous 3. a Nobel laureate (from same university as 1) Recommendations: 65% reject for early career scholar, 23% reject for Nobel laureate 😑

I want you to stop for a moment and think that these are the progressive positions on university campuses (which then spew out our politicians): 1) capitalism is evil; socialism is fair; 2) trans women are women, and they should compete in women's boxing; 3) Islam is peaceful;

New from Adrian Barnett QUT: "Why I’ve removed journal titles from the papers on my CV" Science is rarely simple. "Simplistic promotion and hiring criteria ignore this wonderful complexity. Changing typical academic CV formats could bring some of it back.” ow.ly/VvLK50SVXY8

Dear Mr. @thierrybreton, when Twitter (prior to Elon purchasing it) was banning people for discussing the COVID vaccine, the lab leak theory, and/or the Hunter Biden laptop, did you send a similar letter to Jack Dorsey? I'm Jewish with a deeply problematic childhood in Lebanon,

Eye-opening chart, just in 2011 German GDP was about twice as big as GDP of California, now they are about the same. Germany is a country with industry from last century, grotesque overregulation, desolate infrastructure, lack of innovation and green paranoia. What a pity.

Singapore's economic success is, more than anything, the product of Georgism. The public capture of land rent, coupled with limited government (usually around 15%-20% of GDP), mean they don't have to tax productive activities much. Free markets do the rest.

Yann LeCun Elon Musk This is a bad reading of Popper. He believed liberalism must be intolerant of intolerant actions, such as religious restrictions on other belief systems. Popper did not think we should be broadly intolerant of speech, including "hate" speech, if it acknowledges reasons in debate

Yann LeCun Elon Musk Yann is unambiguously endorsing a step towards authoritarian illiberalism. Popper did not endorse restricting hate speech. He endorsed restricting discriminatory and liberty destroying laws. The real paradox of intolerance:

The merchants of complexity will try to convince you that you can't do anything yourself these days. You can't do auth, you can't do scale, you can't run a database, you can't connect a computer to the internet. You're a helpless peon who should just buy their wares. No. Reject.

I’m convinced that we need more housing HOWEVER not fixing the systemic: 👉problems of quality regulation 👉current unremediated cladded buildings 👉ending leasehold In advance will be building the Labour castle on foundations of sand. The issues will haunt any legacy.

I read a piece about Grenfell yesterday which suggested the '1 in 1 out' rule on regulation had partly led to a civil servant being too scared to raise concerns over combustible cladding with the minister. Utterly braindead policy making.
