Who should I make friends with in Pittsburgh who can get me a reservation at Apteka for my group, *not* a month from now at 9:30pm?! :)

This made my day!
(But I also wonder how long it took my PhD students to write this, I imagine them passing it back and forth, ‘no, I can’t write this, you write this’) :)

I used to stress about recruiting SO much, and now I realize *all* of my students do a much better job recruiting others to the group/ our questions than me … :)
It’s such a relief! I can ask for help on this now!

This piece by Carolyn Bertozzi on what academia is about and how to overcome one of its problems—lack of women among the professoriate—is extraordinary: for its clarity and for its call to recognise academia for what it is to many of us: creativity unleashed.

Just found out our group is getting MIRA NIH funding!

We build weird little math models (I joke, but also not: we play with toy models by design!) and large NIH funding always seemed a bit out of reach. But not anymore :)

Also, the reviews made my year 😍

Can we get rapid tests for influenza?

As we settle into the new normal, folks voluntarily quarantining until antigen negative for COVID is a wonderful thing for public health. Why aren't we striving to implement similar (voluntary) measures for other major respiratory viruses?

'We need to develop genetic engineering technologies and techniques to be able to write circuitry for cells and predictably program biology in the same way in which we write software and program computers.' Great leadership from President Biden in 🇺🇸🧬🧵
