I really should have foreseen 'responding to media requests' in today's agenda. It's a tremendous opportunity to get more knowledge out there on the importance of public and private sector policies so I am trying to respond to all of them!

With Lula back in power we could very likely see a significant reduction in Amazon deforestation rates, as that between 2004-2010. Moreover, important domestic and international conditions are arguably more favorable than at that time. A crucial task for the global climate system

I send my congratulations to Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on his election to be the next president of Brazil following free, fair, and credible elections. I look forward to working together to continue the cooperation between our two countries in the months and years ahead.

I think it’s time for a sigh of relief. Not just for the Amazon and Cerrado, but for peace & stability in Brasil, for some return of rule of law, science, & civility. For food security & poverty reduction. For the climate & democracy.

In case you missed it - Bolsonaro knew he would lose so he’s just trying to block people from voting.

Bolsonaro promises to increase deforestation in the Amazon, while Lula promises to slow it.

Neither of them gained majority support in a first round of voting, so they go to a runoff election on Sunday. Polls have shown them neck-and-neck.
