🐬DOLPHINS!🐬 Last night two #BottlenoseDolphins were spotted in the harbour from our solar-powered boat. Dolphins are an extremely rare occurrence in Chichester Harbour - although they are a more regular sight in the open waters between the Solent and Selsey Bill. 🧵1/2

Amazing treat to share the water with this chap (filmed by John MacKinnon), who passed within yards of us as we lay in the River Great Stour by Sainsbury's News, Canterbury on Fri eve. #MySwim #Beavers #Beaver #EuropeanBeaver #Castorfiber #Canterbury #chalkstreams #greatstour🧵1/7

Breathtaking footage of 25 common dolphins filmed by Kurt Lander on Saturday morning (September 14th) off #Brighton. The pod, which includes juveniles & calves, was dispersed over a wide area, but Kurt was able to film this stunning footage in clear, calm waters. #sussex

Sunset over mudflats this evening. September is peak algal matting season and there's not much bare mud to be seen in this stretch.

20 bottlenose #dolphins sighted south of the West Pier, #Brighton Monday, September 16th. Thanks to Robin Howard for sharing this sighting. Robin regularly reports dolphin & porpoise sightings and has had some fantastic cetacean encounters over the years. #sussex

The miracle that is a restored #ghostpond in the middle of arable. This #pond was filled in >100 yrs ago & lost. We ressurected it back in 2015. It is now *ALIVE*. How many species can you see? You may even see fish. The most successful form of ecological restoration known!

"To meet net zero and stop biodiversity decline we must work with nature, not against it. This means restoring habitats, properly planning offshore development, and investing in protected areas to safeguard wildlife and keep blue carbon locked up,” .independent.co.uk/climate-change…

Autumn is arriving on the saltmarsh & mudflats of the Solent coast. The soundtrack of Brent Geese is yet to come (mostly) but the new colour theme is well in progress.

BREAKING: UK & Isle of Man seabed habitats store an astonishing 244 million tonnes of carbon—in top 10cm alone. 🌊❗️ The Blue Carbon Mapping Project by RSPB, The Wildlife Trusts, @WWF_UK & Scottish Association for Marine Science shows just how vital our seabed sediments, saltmarshes & seagrass meadows are.

Has anyone else noticed that a remarkable number of Saxons were buried with these striped ceremonial spears? Some kind of warrior cult, perhaps? 🤔
