The current draft scheme from The City of Edinburgh Council needs detailed scrutiny in terms of the administrative burden on small businesses and their voice in terms of how revenues are spent. Questions also remain on the council's estimated £1m per year running costs of this scheme.

It is vital Edinburgh gets this right before the visitor levy is rolled out around the country. The small businesses which make up the vast majority of firms engaged in tourism, including 93% of accommodation providers, need to have a say in how the levy is spent.
