'Their America,' mourning lost coal jobs, economic anxiety, the soft-focus diner photo... this story is white grievance bingo, including the indulgent framing. Like, aww, they're sad about diversity so they have to burn down democracy 🥹

Honestly, WTF?

“Their” America?? 🤢

Call me crazy, but maybe it’s not the best idea to legitimize their sense of grievance in the headline by uncritically parroting back their claim of ownership over a nation built on stolen land with stolen labor? Just a thought!

Seventy-one percent of all U.S. voters believe that democracy is at risk, according to a recent New York Times/Siena College poll. But only 7% identified that as the most important problem facing the country. nyti.ms/3f0MkW3

A former President of the United States suggests throwing journalists in jail to be raped until they give up their sources. (The crowd laughs.) Sen. Marsha Blackburn, Bill Hagerty, Mark E. Green, MD, John Rose, Mayor Andy Ogles for Congress, will you condemn those words? 1/

My issue with this story is that it repeats how successful the people are doing illegal drugs, as if it’s more surprising when successful people die from illegal drugs than when poor people do. That writing could be rephrased. This is horrible. It’s always horrible when ppl die.

andrew kaczynski This is highly problematic, if you think anything that is happening right now with more than 200 election deniers on the ballot and candidates openly say no they will challenge election results if they don't win is just typical politics.

The maskless in-person conferences are an effective reinforcer of groupthink. More than one person that avoided infections until now telling me they got infected when attending because they ceded to the pressure of their peers.

podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/lat… This is the perfect time to listen to this fascinating episode. Oh, and did you know that North Dakota saw the largest growth of the Latino population percentage-wise than in any other state in the country? Bravo Reynaldo Leaños Jr. Marta Martinez

We're just so polarized today. On one side are people who believe that if they don't win, then the election was stolen from them & they are entitled to engage in armed violence to 'take back their country.' On the other side are people who are trying to win by getting more votes.

I am in awe of my Los Angeles Times colleagues who produced this brilliantly reported and artfully written report on what makes L.A. one of the most crowded places to live. They reveal how racist policies, many directed at Mexicans, created these conditions. latimes.com/california/sto…
