A young person has a need to belong, accepted, loved & nurtured. In edu, expressing thr emotions is crucial for development. If they get the message that to be accepted, they have to surpress emotions & they feel there is no room for actual emotions they supress them for belonging🧠🌱

The physiology of the brain is programmed by early childhood experiences.

Important when working with young people dealing with emotional dysregulation that they can not only name their feelings but have the ability to check in with their body.

What is happening for you right now.

What does it want from you.

This is true regulation. 🧠🌱

Unfortunately, this is very sad and very true. However, the young people aren't on the settee, they are in another room locked into another world.🧠🌱

Reminder that not all young people can manage their emotions as well as others.
For some young people, it's essentially like learning a new language & and a new way of communicating with themselves.Regulating emotions, triggers, physical sensations, body states & memories.🧠🌱

Reminder when working with young people from traumatic childhood experiences that memories are not just explicit memory, recall memory but also implicit, body memories. Emotional & physical imprints of early experiences that live in the present.🧠🌱

independent.co.uk/life-style/sma… How phones broke children’s brains.
By designing a firehouse of addictive content that entered through kids’ eyes and ears, and by displacing physical play and in-person socialising, these companies have rewired childhood and changed human development.🧠🌱

When young people were given the greatest attraction/distraction device ever made the mobile device with the Internet/apps, it was never going to end well.We have an addiction problem impacting attainment, mental health & social development. Schools need help, urgently. 🧠🌱

Meeting developmental expectations means keeping in mind the development of the young person. How is their brain developing & not from your own expectations & ideas of how they are supposed to be.We may need to adjust our expectations that are stifling the child's development🧠🌱

They presume young people are bad, but it's the bad things that have already happened to them. You can't punish young people into a better way of being. It will only exacerbate the problem.🧠🌱

I've noticed over the last few days that parents are now clamping eyepads to the front of prams so their kids can watch it.I also saw a parent today out for a walk with the baby. Headset earphones on and the phone in hand.Another parent & son sitting in mcdonalds phone each🧠🌱

When a young person is growing up in an abnormal harsh psychological environment the limbic system is constantly sending fear & stress messages to the prefrontal cortex, which overloads its ability to solve problems, set goals, and complete tasks in the most efficient ways.🧠🌱
