TT hybrids setting up for a solid finish after a wet start in southern NSW. Punching down a taproot to help survive the warmer September temps.

Love the crop competition from hybrids + 250mm rows + diverse chemistry options on a vetch fallow. Warwick Holding WeedSmart

Thanks Michael for a stimulating session. Came to hear about slugs & learnt so much more on ecology, feeding preferences, IPM, plant health & more..your passion is contagious. The sausage rolls were pretty good too 👍

Vetch companion mixes are kicking along as temps warm up & roots tap into subsoil moisture. Arrowleaf clover is now going nuts after a slow start. Weaned lambs finishing off the radish & turnips as the sprayed grasses melt down. WeedSmart

Urea landing on farm is being spread on arrival. 3 spreaders & 2 chaser bins make for an efficient job. A full profile & solid yield potential, ensures the final top up is worth it. Matt Notley

Faba beans are always a strong indicator of any aluminium at depth. April sown fabas patchy & struggling to nodulate whilst other areas look good. Ideal time to start 5cm pH testing to check for an acid throttle & guide lime requirements.

Plenty of barley kicking on now with the zero row spacing configuration. Soils have dried out & the crops are enjoying some sunshine. MJKohlhagen

Vetch companion mixes hitting their straps with some warm sunny weather. Grasses sprayed & brassicas tapering but legumes are pumping on the biomass coming into spring. Graze for another 6-7 weeks then spray fallow.

Beautiful day in the sunshine at Narromine for Day 2 WeedSmart Week.

On farm with Billy Browning & team hearing about their slick operation.

Then onto the machinery expo with Ben White talking on latest in HWSC mills & spray tech.

Interactive learning at its best.

Clay soil farmers in southern NSW are loving the conditions in 2023. After a couple of very wet years, the crops are set up to utilise the stored soil water. Cruising in 100 series also makes for a comfortable afternoon of crop checking. Stephen Hatty

Unplanned sowing rate trial meant the Samira faba beans went out at 200kg/ha. Be interesting to follow the crop through to harvest & beyond. Looks pretty solid on a very wet profile. Trevor Cooper Stephen Cooper

Top quality session at Marrar with Farming Systems research team & local agronomists. Data from 2018-2022 shows the value of long term trials. Double breaks, tight rotations, vetch, N & acid throttles were hot topics.

Lock up time after 7 weeks grazing (1000 wethers on 36ha). Lick feeders + barley in the last 4 weeks. Very wet underfoot as sheep are moved on & canola is locked up for grain. Minimal wastage for a bulky crop. Agrista
