Sad to hear of the passing of Penny Simkin who was a powerful voice and force in the birthing world 🙏🏽💗 Penny Simkin was physical therapist, has been a childbirth educator and doula since 1968 and written many books which I still have.

Freebirthing, the practice of giving birth with no medical intervention or registered healthcare workers present, is on the rise in Australia.

But, 7 baby deaths have been linked to unassisted or freebirths in South East Queensland and Northern NSW since 2022.

I think that many women are unaware of the risks of freebirth. One of my friend's died after freebirthing, I am certain she did not understand the danger she was placing herself in.
