“All over this country, every day, in every community, there are families quietly going about their lives with little fanfare and a whole lot of obstacles and even more love.” buff.ly/3MC7Qxs @heidistevens13

Immigrants aren’t eating anyone’s pets. But also if people come to your country or your city hungry and desperate for a better life what about feeding and caring for them instead of weaponizing their hunger to spread racist lies?

Immigrants aren't eating anyone's pets. It’s easy to make up lies that turn people into something we hardly recognize as human when we don't want to do the hard work of figuring out how to help them. But we know better. And we can do better. My column chicagotribune.com/2024/09/13/hei…

We should heed Pete’s words here. The “they’re eating the animals” bit seems stupid enough to be innocuous, but it IS strategic. It baits us, distracting us from reality, and striking unsubstantiated but very real fear in an already frightened base.

What if, in a country as resource-rich as the United States, the dialogue around immigration focused on how we can do the most good for the most people for the most amount of time? What if instead of weaponizing people’s hunger, we fed them? My column. chicagotribune.com/2024/09/13/hei…

September is the best time of year. You can finally turn the AC off and turn the heat on at 7am and turn that off at 10am so you can open a window at noon and close those at 2pm so you can turn the AC back on until 9pm.
