At the 5th #UfM Ministerial Meeting on Strengthening the Role of Women in Society.

This meeting brings 42 countries together to put gender equality high on the political agenda.

We must build on achievements, monitor progress and empower women.

With Nasser Kamel, Secretary General of #UfM I discussed today's Declaration and its clear focus on women’s full participation:

- to be financially independent
- to take decision-making positions, and
- end violence against women and girls.

I opened a discussion on #CyberViolence at the European Parliament Gender Equality Week.

1 in 2 young women have experienced gender-based cyber violence.

This is unacceptable and must be addressed as the crime that it is.

Fishing and the protection of the environment go hand in hand.

At #EPlenary I stressed how protecting vulnerable maritime ecosystems is our collective duty to society, future generations, and those whose livelihoods depend on marine resources and on a healthy ocean.

Sexualised violence and rape must be addressed as the serious crimes they are. Everywhere.

At European Parliament I called on EU Council to ratify the EU’s accession to the Istanbul Convention, and adopt the #VAW and #DomesticViolence Directive.

The murder of Matúš Horváth and Juraj Vankulič in #Bratislava must send a message across Europe on the risk posed by hate speech and crime.

I call on EU Council to extend the list of #EUCrimes to allow for EU dedicated legislation tackling hatred.
