I’ve just finished reading Jonathan Haidt’s bestselling new book THE ANXIOUS GENERATION. I think it may be the most important nonfiction book of the decade, and today I want to tell you why. 🧵

I’m simply horrified to see NHS England now literally breaking the law in how it misrepresents physician associates & other allied health professional - who are NOT doctors - to the public. These posters are from the Bradford District & Craven Health & Care Partnership. 1/n

The design of a cathedral is theologically based and instructive in the faith. Though beautiful, its construction is not arbitrary—it wasn’t arranged simply to look pretty. The layout, artwork, statues, and stained glass windows all serve an edifying purpose🧵

Spoke about this with my English mate: place-names in England and Wales rendered into High German (morphologically reconstructed with attention to ultimate etymology and sound evolution processes). Fun to read through the map! Source: buff.ly/3KV7rWh

The cooling effect of a single, young street tree is the same as 5 room-sized air conditioners operating 20 hours/day. If London had delivered the 50% increase in street trees that I did as a Hackney Cllr, we may have prevented the U.K’s first, but not last, 40C+ heatwave.

Edinburgh is often called one of the world's most beautiful cities, but what makes it so special? Well, Edinburgh is built around an extinct volcano, and so it's a perfect example of how interesting geography leads to interesting architecture...

One of the best shows I've ever seen (helps that I'm from Sheffield). If you get a chance before it closes, see it! #skysedgemusical

Critique Cass if you want but the state of the science is what it is: evidence on puberty blockers and hormones in young people with gender dysphoria is "wholly inadequate." Best now to focus on holistic care and new research that must follow The BMJ bmj.com/content/386/bm…

The most stubbornly persistent myth about historic buildings is the yarn that all spiral stairs in castles turn clockwise to advantage right-handed defenders. Yet it was invented in 1902 by an art critic and didn't gain popularity until the mid-20th century... a thread 🧵
