Just to be clear, I'd accept ads for used car lots, fortified wines, cigs, and fentanyl products, but under no circumstances would I ever allow my timeline to be shit on with a political ad.

The account meanwhile can limit how many and what advertisers they approve. Honestly, I would allow one sponsored ad on each one of my weekend car ID threads, which I don't think would be all that annoying to readers.

I could see it working like this: ad-verified accounts get shared with martech/adtech agencies, along with account viewing stats and content description. They can say, hey, I like this TL for a client, and can target ad there. Twitter keeps 50%, account keeps 50%.

In short, if a verification badge on Twitter simply meant you were eligible to get a decent cut of ad revenue targeted to your timeline, hell yes I would pay the $8 per month, and go car IDs 24/7.

By contrast when I do car IDs, audience is much smaller but everybody seems to enjoy them (especially me). Pretty innocuous, like cute pet videos, and I can see a path to monetizing that for a few buck per week on Twitter, if the tools were there. But they aren't.

The thing is, I've gotten 3+ million views on tweets that are I guess 'sick burns' or whatever but ultimately it's just a meaningless arcade game score, with angry disagreeing idiots and angry agreeing idiots haunting your TL for a week or more. None of that buys me a beer.
