This fiery and evocative still image by Claire Marceaux and Aysha Al-Ani is called “On Fire”.

Can you guess what highly capable and complex organ is being depicted?

Congrats Assoc Prof Tim Thomas & Prof Anne Voss, winners of the Australian Museum for Scientific Research!

Their work led to a new class of drugs that can put cancer cells ‘to sleep’ without the harmful side effects caused by conventional treatments.

You’re looking at moving image “Disco” by Sabrina Lewis. It depicts a “map” of molecules within cancer cells in a small region of a tumour. How can something so beautiful be so deadly?

In collaboration with the Dulac lab, we developed 3D MERFISH for volumetric imaging of thick-tissue slices up to 200um. A useful tool to facilitate the integration of functional and morphological measurements with spatial genomics in the future.

During my PhD and now my postdoc, I've seen how technologies developed in academic labs can be commercialised such that other groups with sufficient funding can 'simply' purchase a new piece of equipment to acquire a new capability. 1/
