When Brianna Ghey died it hit me particularly hard. I had to take time away from work, my mental health got significantly worse. At her vigil I was uncontrollably crying. A trans girl no older than 14 came and just hugged me. Told me things would get better: I fight for her

Trans people need to be able to exist safely as themselves with respect & dignity, and with equal access to adequately funded healthcare. I support & stand in solidarity with the trans community —including young trans people — for whom puberty blockers are a life-saving measure.

Public statements like the one you’re doing now? The one that says that trans kids lives don’t matter?

Saying puberty blockers are safe for precocious puberty but not gender dysphoria is quite telling. The drugs don’t have different effects in these cases—you’re literally using them *to block puberty*. What you’re saying you have a problem with is *young people transitioning*.

Apparently 16 suicides on the waitlist and likely countless more off the waitlist isn’t “risk” enough.

This is very safe medicine, known to safely and effectively pause puberty for cis children. BUT NOT FOR TRANS CHILDREN Because..... Because..... Because ew trans yuk

As Labour adopts the Tories’ attack on puberty blockers, I want to re-share this. The evidence base for puberty blockers is robust, and scientifically we simply can’t do the ‘high quality’ studies they want. They’re not feasible for this type of care. tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10…

Fun fact: If we applied that standard to all medicine, we would have to stop virtually all interventions in newborn intensive care units and let the newborns die.

Whilst everything continues to be dire, & it's hard to not be overwhelmed by panic & fear, I do count my blessings. Today, my partner & kids brought me a scone with strawberries for non-binary day. It's beautiful to have a family where I'm seen, respected, loved & valued.

A large percentage of medication (up to 90% according to some studies) prescribed for children is prescribed off label. Wes apparently has no issue with this lack of evidence because these kids aren't trans. Wes has no background in science or healthcare whatsoever by the way.

Schrodinger's puberty blocker: a child with precocious puberty starts taking a safe and legal drug. Later, she realizes she is trans. The drug is now dangerous and banned.

I met young trans people and their families before the election, hugely worried those already prescribed were having their treatment removed. But we kept some hope a new Govt would listen to them. Instead so far the opposite. Desperately concerning and Labour must put it right.
