#NEW Brief: #Uyghurs are imprisoned without committing a crime. Most trials are not public. Reasons for imprisonment are vague and unjust. The right to appeal is absent. This brief unpacks the mechanisms behind the mass imprisonments in the Uyghur Region. uyghurrightsmonitor.org/2023/12/14/unp…
Congratulations to European Commission, EU Council & European Parliament for provisionally agreeing on a regulation prohibiting the import of goods made with forced labor. This stands to be landmark business and human rights legislation.
We encourage EU Council & @Europarl to approve the EU prohibition on forced labor made goods swiftly. The people who work to make the goods we consume deserve legislation that protects their rights. And EU consumers deserve protection from purchasing goods made with forced labor.
The US Tariff Act of 1930 & the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act have proven that it is both necessary and feasible for government to prevent forced labor made goods from tainting our supply chains. Homeland Security stands ready to assist in implementation and share lessons learned.
As UN High Commissioner Volker Türk just reminded the world at the 55th session of the Human Rights Council, the PRC has still not addressed the concerns raised in the @UNHUmanRights 2022 report on human rights violations in Xinjiang. ohchr.org/en/statements-…
Is this indicative of a new policy direction now that Border Services NOR has begun actively identifying and confiscating products manufactured through the exploitation of Uyghur forced labor? Laura Murphy Homeland Security Under Secretary Rob Silvers CBP pvbuzz.com/canada-border-…
Very meaningful to meet with leaders of the Uyghur diaspora. Every day Homeland Security blocks forced labor products and combats transnational repression, issues the Uyghur community knows all too well. We are committed to honoring and protecting their rights here, and in their homeland.
🛑 Member states say no to products made with forced labour! 🇪🇺 Ambassadors just confirmed the provisional agreement found in record time between EU Council & European Parliament. This regulation will prohibit products made with forced labour from being placed on the EU market.
As Homeland Security identifies more entities across different sectors that use or facilitate forced labor, we act to keep their tainted goods out of our nation’s supply chains.
