We had a patient return to the ED today to be re-engaged on suboxone after a somewhat recent return to use. He came back to our ED after almost 2 years bc he was treated well and given the care he deserved. It was nice to see him again and I’m just so grateful he is safer now

I would love it if my medical colleagues would stop perpetuating the _MYTH_ that marijuana is often laced with fentanyl. 💗 webmd.com/connect-to-car…

“As the opioid and overdose crises rage on, it's past time to revisit these barriers to treatment bc they keep care out of reach for people who truly need it.” - so so so key Bridget C.E. Dooling!

We know that OPS will save countless lives. Continued decision-making based on outdated perceptions of treatment and recovery are getting us deeper into a very dark hole. You missed a golden opportunity to turn this ship around Gavin Newsom

I’m hoping that each of you will send this email or have already done so to ensure that it’s clear to Gavin Newsom that this was an incredibly stupid move.

Folks, is there any work in public health (focused on addiction, harm reduction, and SUD) that is not grant funded? Not government? Not academic? I’d love to be in the know!!!!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 Still learning the landscape 💗

If you are interested in reducing stigma Secretary Xavier Becerra ~ this does not help. If the goal is to save lives: ➡️Treatment needs to be easier to access than illicit substances ⬅️ statnews.com/2023/03/08/bec…

“We owe it to those who have substance use disorders to ensure that secular, science-based treatment is the mainstay of their medical care.” It’s difficult to envision any other way out of our current overdose crisis without this updated perspective. Thank you Maia Szalavitz !!!

You wouldn’t believe how far it goes to tell a patient: “I’m glad you’re here.” Especially in addiction treatment and 100x especially when someone is struggling. That’s when we should be GLADDEST a patient is there and still coming back, and for God’s sake, let’s tell them that.

If we, as a society, continue to envision addiction as a moral failing that warrants punishment, we will always struggle to address the problem. We need to try something different, and we must approach this issue from a place of love and compassion. sfgate.com/politics-op-ed…

My daughter thinks my pasta sauce is so tasty that she thinks it’s worth $1M and I should quit my work in public health trying to address overdoses to be a chef instead.
