Alleluia, Christ is risen! This Easter Sunday, here’s Christ rising from his tomb; three guards sleep and one wakes up to adore him. The guards only appear in Matthew, where, at the sight of the angel rolling back the stone, they “shook and became like dead men”. [MS 368 f. 12r]

We're sure you're all done with football now but we have one last photo of folks running around after a ball - at the greatest speeds yet by the looks of it. We're also digging the turtleneck kit! Maer Lane Football Ground, Market Drayton [PH/M/6/10/42]

Have you visited York's famous medieval street, the Shambles? 🤩 This photograph from our archive was taken in 1910. The street was formerly full of butchers' shops and houses, with their own slaughterhouses to the rear. #YorkshireDay

Enjoyable August bank holiday sea kayaking off Anglesey with Plas y Brenin. We paddled past Penmon Lighthouse & crossed to Puffin Island, the Menai Strait from Menai Bridge to Beaumaris & from Bull Bay near Amlwch to Point Lynas. Great kit from P&H Sea Kayaks & CelticPaddles.

#OTD in 1666, shortly after midnight, the Great Fire of London began in a bakery on Pudding Lane. The fire raged for four days, destroying much of the medieval City of London. This item from our map collection shows the extent of the devastation.
