Great discussions with colleagues Stellenbosch University today, concentrating on how we can enhance 🇪🇺🌍collaboration based on equity, to make a real difference to our societies. Equity requires us to really articulate what everyone can bring to the table - to do better science!
Not for the first time, I can only support Dr Christian Ehler in this: it is critical that Member States stick to agreements and finance research and innovation as agreed with ITRE Committee Press. ResearchProfessional 👉bit.ly/3SYrCnA
wonderful to see that my great colleagues University of Warwick from the pioneering Warwick Global Sustainable Development 🌎 are integral to University of Glasgow #GSDCongress . If we can embolden each other to transform the sector, we can do it! Christine Ennew
Really? Having just driven past expanses of slums around Cape Town, I cannot help thinking that the EU’s #GlobalGateway must be not about metaverse, but about working together to overcome deep inequalities to achieve concrete material outcomes. Anton Muscatelli Svein Stølen Åse Gornitzka
We must redouble our efforts to achieve our climate targets. BUT Draft Directive on Energy Performance has it wrong: #HorizonEurope is NOT a piggy-bank for implementing ('pushing') policy/existing technology, it must remain focused on breakthrough R&I. 👉bit.ly/3NpukRV
Writing this from Stellenbosch University, building on much of the input you have generously given to The Guild over the years. I look forward to seeing how you will choose to bring your passion, experience and insight to the community post-'retirement'. Rachel Sandison Anton Muscatelli #TeamUofG
At #aprecon2022 , Fabio Donato Italy 🇮🇹 in EU reported that the EU Council EU2022_CZ supports the New 🇪🇺 #Innovation Agenda's emphasis on #DeepTech . But he called for a holistic approach embracing all types of innovation including social and cultural innovation.
Great article by Howard French in The Guardian that shows how collaboration across national boundaries (+ beyond imperial legacies) will be essential for realising Africa's huge potential. This is surely true not just for economic planning, but also for science 👉bit.ly/3U6KGkJ
Good that George Freeman MP is back as Science Minister: he knows what he is doing and has come out to bat for 🇬🇧 Horizon Europe🇪🇺 association. But the key now is to get all our 🇪🇺+🇬🇧 political leaders to understand how important this is for our future. Science|Business👉bit.ly/3NdgsdF
...other quality indicators: #horizon grant success, sought-after evaluator for international funding bodies, adjunct position Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. And The Guild we've come to appreciate his incisive contributions to the leadership at our General Assembly. Congratulations!
We shouldn't spend too much time examining Rishi Sunak comments on UK global R&D strategy last summer: I hope he will now carefully examine pros&cons of 🇬🇧 association to Horizon Europe🇪🇺. That would leave just one conclusion: the UK must settle its differences with 🇪🇺: fast+amicably
Really important event coming up, offering interesting insights from UK-based researchers on an issue of global urgency! I have just registered. Join online or physically King's ECS 👉 bit.ly/3TEb0D0
