Frankly? A wonderfully simple experience. Not an over the top ryokan but the chance to stay in a historic house - so long as you're prepared to do your own cooking. Or cook and eat with the next door farmers. Lovely location. onoetei.wixsite.com/official/協議会について

I recently came across this website that explains in some detail the history of the stone islands, the group of islands in the western Seto Inland Sea that provided the granite for many of Japan's most important buildings. stone-islands.jp/story/

The weather forecast is not great but this won't hinder the trip to Sanuki Hiroshima 讃岐広島 in the Seto Inland Sea. Today the island is holding a festival that celebrates the island's own mini 四国遍路, Shikoku Henro.

A restored Edo era store house or kura with distinctive cross hatching. More well-built kura often feature a black and white criss-cross diamond pattern called 海鼠壁 namako kabe.

Corrugated steel was used extensively post World War 2 to quickly and cheaply rebuild housing destroyed by bombing. But it was also used elsewhere - as in this example in Marugame.

I was reminded of David Bedford's Rio Grande when this afternoon I saw this small cargo vessel heading towards the harbour. In the distance there appears to be a thin layer of sea mist. Seto Inland Sea.

Poking my nose into an abandoned Edo era house in Marugame. Abandoned in that the owners have died, and there were no children who wanted to take it over. Look closely, and you'll see a pair of casual shoes that have been neatly placed in the hallway.

The team from Ushio Chocolatl. The chocolate is made on Mukojima, Hiroshima Prefecture - it is, of course, perfectly ethical and organic. They had set up their stall in Marugame today in the pop up shop by the station.

The Japanese government has set a target spend of ¥200,000 (c. US$1290) per visitor by 2025. Already achieved as it was one of those pathetically low objectives not least because tourists staying for 10-14 days will typically spend that on hotel rooms alone.

King Records released a number of LPs featuring Super Max 20 technology, mainly in the 'Best of Genre.' This suited it as it meant 20 tracks on a disc versus the 12 or so norm. However it had a short life due to playing issues. 20 tracks meant narrow grooves, and needle skipping

Interesting find in a local second-hand/thrift store. A rare copy of Original Soundtrack Recording. Issued in Jpn by King Records in 1975 it was cut with their Super Max 20 technology that meant they could get 20 tracks on the LP. (That's their claim!)

I'll miss this but if you are in London it will surely be worth visiting. The Photographers' Gallery. There is a Japanese connection: when working in Japan Hardy photographed the execution of Japanese war criminals. thephotographersgallery.org.uk/whats-on/bert-…

I saw this some weeks ago and was equally bowled over. However I had one quibble: I was - and remain unconvinced - by the sudden Road to Damascus conversion of the two agency employees (well certainly Takahashi, the guy. Less so with Mayuzumi as she was sceptical from the outset)

I found this ticket taped into a programme (more on that later). Dating from Showa 59, it's for a performance at Okayama Civic Hall. As I write, the Hall is being demolished because it is no longer earthquake safe. (A common problem meaning a loss of much iconic architecture.)
