Reid Health’s police department has added three new members to its agency. Over a two year period from early 2020 to December of 2021, Reid went from a nine-person security team to a full-time police department with 24 officers on staff.

Union County police canine Ice, who has been the focus of concern of several Union County residents, will soon be serving with the Fayette County Sheriff's Department.

Richmond's Derrick East was arrested yesterday and charged with possession of meth. He was taken into custody in the 800 block of North 16th. The quantity of meth recovered has not been released.

The family of Connersville's Denise Pflum, who has been missing since 1986, appears to have reached an agreement with Erika Johnson to search Johnson's property for Denise's remains. A court hearing is set for a week from today.

Richmond firefighters battled a house fire in the 400 block of South 12th yesterday. Flames were showing when crews arrived. There's no word yet on the dollar amount of the damage or the cause of the fire.

It probably looked a lot like this last night on I-70 in Wayne County. A Dayton driver was on his rims after striking an officer there and fleeing from police. Stop sticks brought the chase to an end near the U.S. 35 exit in Richmond. The officer was not seriously hurt.

RPD officers chased a juvenile driver in the area of Richmond Avenue and Peacock Road overnight. The juvenile crashed into a tree and was caught after a foot pursuit. There's no word yet on what led to the chase or how young the driver is.

Wayne County leaders are considering a proposal that would exempt mobile homes from property taxes. Treasurer Nancy Funk says it usually costs the county more to chase down the taxes than they collect.

Connersville leaders are considering a tax hike that would result in someone with a $50,000 annual income paying an extra $125 per year. They say the increase is needed largely to help hire and retain first responders.

Primary election day is rapidly approaching for Indiana counties in our area. Today is the deadline to submit an application to vote by mail. Early voting has been underway for two weeks. Four vote centers will open across Wayne County this coming Monday.

A small house in the 1100 block of NW 6th in Richmond sustained heavy damage when fire broke out at around 10:30 last night. No one was home at the time. The cause remains under investigation.

Only 46% of conservative students in Indiana say they're comfortable expressing their views on college campuses. State Senator Jeff Raatz of Richmond has authored a bill to change that.

Pamela Barger has been sentenced to 33 years in prison. A two-year-old boy died after being beaten and neglected back in 2019. Barger was operating a Richmond babysitting service when the incident occurred.

He told his victims that – if anyone found out about his child molesting – he would likely die in jail. Now, there’s a good chance that Randolph County’s 69-year-old Nicholas Reese’s prediction will come true. Reese has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Christopher Cones is classified as a sexually violent predator as the result of an Oklahoma rape. Cones was arrested for burglary yesterday in the 100 block of SW 4th in Richmond. It makes his 5th criminal case in Wayne County in the last ten months.

According to the state, there are 445 fewer Richmond residents who are employed this morning as there were a year ago.
