'By and large, farmers are decent, honest, hardworking people, who want to do right by future generations. With progressive, visionary leadership they could be nature and climate champions.'
But that leadership is absent.
My piece in today's The Irish Times

“If it is going to change things, it has to change them well. We’ve heard enough from people who clearly don’t know what they’re doing in RTÉ. It’s time to listen to the people – the creative people – who do,” Una Mullally @irishtimes [€] irishtimes.com/opinion/2023/0…
“Tubridy repeated over and over on Tuesday that he wants to go back to that ‘great old place’. He wants to be part of the catharsis. He may come to regret hitching his wagon to Noel Kelly’s,” Jennifer O'Connell The Irish Times irishtimes.com/opinion/2023/0…
Great read by Lisa Tierney-Keogh: I was a writer on Toy Show the Musical. It has been a weird time irishtimes.com/opinion/2023/0…
“Two weeks into the RTÉ crisis over secret payments, the organisation is still faffing about looking for the first aid kit. With every day it is spinning further out of control in a catastrophic doom loop of damning revelations,” Jennifer O'Connell @irishtimes irishtimes.com/opinion/2023/0…
'We just need to zoom out. The greatest marketing win in Ireland in recent years was the Wild Atlantic Way. Nobody built anything, it was just about connecting the dots' - Una Mullally has a big idea for Dublin's O'Connell Street irishtimes.com/opinion/2023/0…
Great points here by Jennifer O'Connell. People constantly spin the need for more hotels as a binary choice (more hotels = less housing/art)…until they need to book a room and are shocked by the price.
These things should run hand in hand with a bit of vision and strategy.
Deep dive by Cliff Taylor into RTÉ’s Bosco accounting is well worth a read irishtimes.com/opinion/2023/0…
Frank McDonald: Dublin’s runaway growth is bad for the rest of the country, and worse for Dublin via Irish Times Opinion irishtimes.com/opinion/2023/0…
Dublin hotel prices in “the realms of the utterly fantastical,” writes Jennifer O'Connell The Irish Times, adding “That’s where they seem to have been hovering in a semi-permanent state of suspension for some time now.” irishtimes.com/opinion/2023/0…

“The chasm in the response to the two events almost a week apart – the contrast in the level of public interest; the resources offered to the rescue teams; the desire to know more about the victims and the circumstances – was stark,” Jennifer O'Connell irishtimes.com/opinion/2023/0…
A piece by me in Irish Times Opinion this morning on that GCSE study and the broader context of breastfeeding pressure and stigma around formula in Ireland. Thanks to Jennifer O'Connell for support on it.
With my brilliant colleague David McWilliams and the fantastic Jana Bakunina Dalkey Book Festival for our talk last night on the world at a tipping point. We're on day two already
