In a weird way, falling in yesterday's 800m prelims may have helped Emmanuel Wanyonyi.

He wound up having to share a lane in today's final and had to get out fast as a result. And likely did not want to risk having to navigate traffic like he did yesterday.

Emmanuel Wanyonyi didn’t just run 1:41.70 today, he looked damn strong in the home straight while doing it. 26.1 final 200.

1:41 for Wanyonyi in 800 (fastest time since Rudisha at London 2012).

One day after going through the motions in the prelims and falling in the home straight, Emmanuel Wanyonyi becomes the third-fastest 800m man of all time.
