As others have noted, in fact, Biden is proposing to extend roughly two-thirds of the Trump tax cuts. That’s what’s needed to prevent tax increases in 2026 on households making under $400k.

“China tariffs” and “Nippon Steel” are Biden’s “Le Tigre” and “Ferrari,” from a Zoolander/election-year-trade-policy perspective, basically.

CEOs love the outreach they get from President Biden. Their profits have never been higher.

But they don’t love how Biden talks about raising their taxes, or, in many cases, how he’s regulating them.

If you believe CBO, this is all true:

*The IRA is getting more expensive
*Because it’s more effective than anticipated
*Also because of Biden regs
*And it doesn’t reduce deficits on net anymore.

If you believe Treasury, that last point is wrong.

How strong has this recovery been? G.D.P. is now above where the CBO expected *before* the pandemic struck. And yes, that's adjusted for inflation.

As wars continue in Ukraine and Gaza, the discussion around them at the World Economic Forum seemed decidedly muted. Jim Tankersley took a look at how the world's elite focused more on AI, climate change and global elections than the wars nytimes.com/2024/01/18/bus…
