Quite frankly, I have little trust in policing in this province. From their dalliance w/ 2022 convoy participants & messaging, to their willingness to lie on the stand or in press conferences, to corruption, to their close relationship w/ Ford Govt, I have theglobeandmail.com/canada/toronto…

Opinion: Ford is a justice system wrecking ball:
1. He wanted an innocent man held without bail without evidence.
2. He airdropped partisan staffers to politically choose judges.
3. He has used and threatened to use the notwithstanding clause for petty partisan purposes.

I mean, this is basically right. The COVID example is one that got washed away in the flood of the pandemic news, but Poilievre didn’t want the government to give money to people as the virus impacted so many parts of the economy. It would have been disastrous.

Awful. Completely without insight. Spite minded. “I didn’t know what i was talking about so I won’t apologize? “

In the good old days before CCTV footage and modern accident investigation techniques, the cops would have teamed up on the witness stand to put this innocent man away, and the mayor and premier would have cheered it on.

ALG's Laura Metcalfe spoke to the Toronto Star about the trial: 'I hope the public now appreciates that a properly-funded defence bar is essential to maintaining the integrity of our justice system -- today and in the future.'

Civic leaders stoked hatred of Umar Zameer.
Lawyer said his office was receiving hate mail and death threats, for 'having the audacity to take on this case'.
'That hatred had been stoked by elected officials and by the chief of police himself.'

The OPP has been tasked to investigate perjury. That means suborning perjury is on the table. The Crowns are therefore under OPP investigation. Next step?

What happened to Mr. Northrup was a horrible, horrible work-related _accident_.

What happened to the Zameer family afterwards was deliberate and wrong. All the politicians and police officers who subsequently went after the Zameer family should own up to their mistakes.

Doug Ford, John Tory and Patrick Brown all owe Umar Zameer their “deepest apologies” as well.

If some politicians had their way, an innocent man would have spent almost three years behind bars for a crime he didn’t commit.
