Became military chaplain in 1st World War. On Aug. 16, 1917, was killed in Passchendaele offensive.

Fr Willie Doyle was an exceptional man. Nobody wrote better about the First World War than he did and that's before you consider his sense of self-sacrifice. He didn't have to serve in the war, he chose to do so. irishtimes.com/history/2022/1…

Been a busy day with Cause work (I can finally say that publicly!). Time for a bit of my treat read before bed. For the umpteenth time rereading my battered copy of LOTR.
There’s one character I like whom few mention: Farmer Maggot! He got a raw deal in the Peter Jackson movies.

As Postulator appointed by the Father Willie Doyle Association, I thank Bp Tom Deenihan of Meath for his decision to open Fr Willie’s Cause. After many years work & prayer, today we rejoice & give thanks.

Bishop Tom Deenihan of Meath has today promulgated an Edict announcing that he is to open the Cause of Beatification & Canonisation of the now Servant of God, Fr Willie Doyle SJ. The Cause will be formally opened on 20 November.
