⚠️New video featuring the fabulous Dr Kaitlin Naughten

The prognosis for the West Ice Sheet may be terminal - but what are we gonna do about it?

The answer is courage, not hope.

Models play a pivotal role in evaluating the severity of climate change - as shown in a recent study about the unevitable increase in West Antarctic Ice Sheet melting by Dr Kaitlin Naughten et al.

In line with continuously evolving models, more observations are urgently needed to…

Dr Kaitlin Naughten The Conversation NatureClimate I really liked the quote from Kate Marvel: We need courage, not hope. Courage is doing the right thing, even if you don’t know you’ll get a good outcome.

I mean damn that’s what everything is about - not just climate change. That’s the person I want to be.

New science from Dr Kaitlin Naughten at British Antarctic Survey 🐧 asked how much control we still have over West Antarctic Ice Sheet melting.

The answer: very little in this century.

All emissions scenarios, incl. Paris Agreement 1.5°C, showed a 3x increase in ocean warming in the Amundsen Sea.

The melt rate of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet will increase until the end of the century, even if we reduce emissions.

New research led by BAS' Dr Kaitlin Naughten shows that it's now likely unavoidable - even in the best-case scenario.
