This honour could not go to a more deserving scientist and person Kathryn Moore Lab, who I am lucky to call a mentor and friend. She is a co-awardee with Chris Glass Glass Lab and their respective work has defined much of what we know about macrophages in atherosclerosis. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

When Adil joined the lab, little did we know his project would take us on a wild ride that would teach us that spleen ECs are so *so* important for lipid-induced atherosclerotic progression. Check out his study in Nature Cardiovascular Research ๐Ÿคฉ๐Ÿคฉ Canโ€™t wait to see what he does next in Augusta!

We were so fortunate to host Daniel J Drucker to present the Morris Kates Award at uOttawaBMI, hearing about the history of GLP1 drugs and encouraging trainees to keep pushing the field forward. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

My friend Erin (allegedly Twitterless, but we know she is watching ๐Ÿ‘€) won a much-deserved award for her research contributions to our Dept. She is the most generous colleague, and person, I know. Her work behind the scenes for allll the things, is recognized. We need more Erins.

Ohhhh! Two of the people in that pic I am lucky enough to call family. Let us always value the skilled voices of journalists, like Adrian Harewood, and all of the J-school grads that follow, to guide us.

It is the only place we consider a home-away-from-home. It is the place we have visited the most, welcomed by our many family members. We โค๏ธ you Edinburgh/Musselburgh.

It is so important that the data we generate as researchers be used for good and never evil. One of our global experts in all-things open science, Kelly Cobey, PhD, will be a key part of identifying dual-use research of concern and developing ways to protect it.

One of the many cool examples of how RNA-based therapies are taking over. These are going to be game-changers for so many indications. So much more to come! #ESCCongress2024

The #ESCCongress2024 did not disappoint. Take home messages from the final day in London: AI needs to be used with caution, there is SO much still to learn about lipids (and new agents to target) and valuable RCTs that can change practice. So long London!

September got off to a busy start with travel & conferences but NEVER too busy to fit in 30 mins of movement. Kicked it off walking 25k steps/day around ESC & London ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ but today firmly back on home soil with an evening walk. #JumpIn (๐Ÿ“ธ by mini-me, both wearing our JumpIn socks)

As researchers, itโ€™s our responsibility to promote the highest level of integrity at every step of our research. Itโ€™s the only way to earn (and keep!) public trust. Karen Wallace is here UOHI Research Services to talk about what responsible conduct of research means. A full house!
