So lovely to be in Glasgow for #BARS2024 British Association for Romantic Studies, where I will be presenting both on Joel Kim Booster’s Fire Island as a reimagining of Pride and Prejudice for my panel with Andrew McInnes on Wednesday, and on women and property ownership in Jane Austen on Thursday 😊

do any history people know what these are? i found them with my late grandad’s belongings - he owned a picture framer’s shop in the southside of Glasgow. Dated 1902 in pencil. Showing pictures about workers rights i think ?

That’s a wrap on the in-person component of #BARS2024! Thank you to all who came for making it such a fantastic few days - a wealth of panels, fabulous music, friends and colleagues old and new, and several happy reminders of some of the many beautiful buildings in our city 🥂

Shame on St. Andrews University - removing the rector from the governing body because she stated the truth - Israel is committing genocide and apartheid - but somehow such comments are deemed to be potentially encouraging antisemitism and against peace! theguardian.com/education/arti…

Our Summer Fellows are hard at work in the Reading Rooms. One of this week's discoveries was a book with the pages still uncut: Gisborne's 1797 Enquiry into the Duties of Men in the Higher and Middle Classes of Society. Find out more about their projects: chawtonhouse.org/2024/06/2024-v…

1/ This is the most persistent myth of academia I have encountered in my career: there is no disinterested position from which to objectively study/teach history, culture, etc. You have to be white to believe this. The medieval university we inherited was political & still is.

have any of my janeite followers been to see the musical Fantastically Great Women Who Changed The World? Austen is a character in it and I'm wondering if it is worth my while to catch the train into London to see it

I’m finally home! What an amazing month. So thankful to everyone at Chawton House for making it amazing. My first experience of an institution that is woman centred - every day I was surrounded by portraits of women all over the walls. So beautiful and I will never forget it 😊

A nice surprise was also waiting on my desk! My first publication, an essay in Tammy Powley and April Van Camp’s Retelling Jane Austen. In it I compare 2 adaptations of MP, their Fanny, and queer readings 🥳🍾

Co-curating this exhibition has been a lovely way to mark the end of the PhD. It's also a great chance to show off some of the fantastic books and collections Bristol Libraries! If you're down in Bristol, check it out!
