NEW investigation from me! How many deaths could happen daily if new drug consumption site rules go through? We took a look at the numbers. Many deaths predicted from Ontario’s plan to shut supervised drug consumption sites: experts, data toronto.ctvnews.ca/many-deaths-pr…

My latest op-ed Toronto Star I almost died of an overdose. Then I got sober, got married and had 3 kids. Ask my family if closing supervised consumption sites is a good idea. This isn't about doing the "right thing". It's political and will kill people. thestar.com/opinion/contri…

NEW investigation from me! The Ford gov’t said supervised drug consumption sites should be shut in part because of crime. But the data seems to show the opposite: Toronto neighbourhoods with sites saw many types of crime drop: data | CTV News toronto.ctvnews.ca/toronto-neighb…

β€œI’m very worried, absolutely. I think they’re going to crack down.” In the wake of charges for five people in connection with Matthew Perry's ketamine-related death, experts say the DEA's framing is a PR play. 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐒𝐬𝐑𝐚 𝐀𝐫𝐒𝐬𝐑𝐧𝐚𝐧 reports: filtermag.org/matthew-perry-…

I think the most practical takeaway from Perry’s case is that Ketamine should come with a warning label to not use it in or near a body of water.

Ryan Marino, MD (@ryanmarino) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Perry’s tragic & unnecessary death happened even though that kind of ketamine prescribing & use is already illegal. Prohibition creates markets for unethical people to take advantage, & drives unsafe use, like his case. Doubling down on failed policies will not fix those problems

Matthew Perry didn’t overdose on k. He k holed in water and drowned. Great read on how the DEA is using this tragedy to fuel a nonsensical war on Ketamine.

Events in August followed a familiar pattern, reports dustin: attacks on harm reduction programs from the right-wing opposition, and a government rushing to appease them at the expense of drug-user health: filtermag.org/british-columb…

🧡In 2021 Oregon became the first state to decriminalize drugs. It recriminalized last week, after three years. There were many reasons; one was because overdoses rose sharply. Our new study finds, critically, this was *not* a result of decriminalization. jamanetwork.com/journals/jaman…
