Marsh's Library looked gorgeous as the setting for some of the talking heads in last night's RTE 1 documentary about the first transatlantic cable between Newfoundland and Co. Kerry: rte.ie/player/movie/t…

Ouch! Repairing damaged vertebrae, from a 1608 edition of the Canon of Medicine by the Persian physician & philosopher, Ibn Sina, known in the West as Avicenna.

A cheery sight on this grey, rainy Monday morning! Hand coloured 'P', from the The Golden Legend, printed in Cologne 541 years ago.

Hide and seek on the cattle farm could get a bit out of hand in 16th century Sweden. From Olaus Magnus' History of the Northern People, printed in 1555.

Fabulous 15th century fashion, from Bernhard von Breydenbach's Pilgrimage to the Holy Land. This woodcut was the first to use crosshatching when it was printed 538 years ago!

The layout of an early 16th century book is really something to behold! This beautiful edition of Pope Gregory's decretals was printed in Paris in 1505 by Thielman Kerver. The text in the centre is surrounded by printed commentaries & an early reader has added their own notes.

A lovely acorn decoration on this initial 'T' for this autumnal morning. From a selection of sermons dedicated to the Virgin Mary, printed 526 years ago, one of the 23 books printed before 1501 featured in our current exhibition 'Gutenberg's Cradle' #incunabulum #incunabula

This book on the city of Bath & its waters was stolen from Marsh's in the early 19th century. It was later found & bought back. Part of the title page was missing, as it possibly had the Library's stamp on it #WorldWaterWeek

Hand-coloured mushrooms, from a 1552 copy of Hieronymous Bock's herbal. The colouring is lovely but possibly not the most accurate; here's hoping no-one ended up sick!
