In 1992 Chicago, near the end of the Cabrini-Green housing projects, two boys navigate a world changing fast in Minhal Baig’s beguiling film, “We Grown Now,” writes Michael Phillips.

Loved Minhal Baig’s Chicago-set coming-of-age portrait WE GROWN NOW when I saw it at TIFF. It’s grown on me even more in the months since, and now it’s out in theaters. Go see it.

A great visit from Minhal Baig! ✨
The writer-director's new film WE GROWN NOW is now playing in select theaters and nationwide on April 26 c/o Sony Pictures Classics.
A rare and genuine depiction of Black American life that leaves trope and stereotypes behind, leaving you with a must see and memorable slice of life.
From friendship to family, childhood to community, Minhal Baig and jurnee smollett thank you. 🥹🙏🏾✨
I absolutely loved this film! It’s so rare to see a coming of age story centering Black boys. Beautiful narrative of wonder and loss by Minhal Baig with so much reverence for the PEOPLE of Cabrini-Green and Chicago communities.
Four Favorites with Jurnee Smollett and Lil Rel Howery, who star in We Grown Now. We Grown Now was nominated for three 2024 Film Independent Spirit Awards, including Best Feature.
A place is the people.
#WeGrownNow is now playing in New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago. Find showtimes at Tickets.WeGrownNow.com
It's heartbreaking to learn of Participant's shuttering. They believed in and fought for genuine artistry in a business so centered on market considerations. I'm incredibly grateful we had the opportunity to work together on We Grown Now.
'From its very first shot, Minhal Baig's masterful WE GROWN NOW grabs you. A still shot of an empty hallway (in, as we learn, the Cabrini-Green housing project in Chicago) beckons you to discover it, to let the many lives it houses drift through you.' - Manuel Betancourt, The A.V. Club
My friend Tyson Wade Johnston wrote and directed a must-see sci-fi short film. Watch it now!
