A riot is not a protest. A racist is not an activist. A thug is not a patriot. Far right extremism is precisely that. Words matter. Why are some in the media refusing to use them accurately?

A mob of “native patriots” lynched a lone black man in Manchester earlier today. Cowards.

Thank you to those who have reached out personally to check in on me & to those allies who have posted on social media in solidarity. Being a Muslim hijab wearing woman, & hearing about islamophobia attacks, it’s an even scarier place out there right now, almost unrecognisable

Will also say the first colleague to check in was a Jewish colleague (who may not want to be identified) Who has been through hell the last 10 months but mostly endured it silently IYKYK &we must support each other, make space for dialogue and sharing of experiences ❤️

There are a lot of fascists on our streets making lots of noise. They are massively outnumbered by the selfless, kind and compassionate, the people who know we have more in common than that which divides us. The people who know our human rights are universal. Us. All of us.

I am immensely proud that the NHS I work in is one of the most multi-ethnic and diverse organisations in the world. NHS colleagues and emergency workers from many countries and faiths work around the clock to serve every UK community. You have my utmost appreciation and respect.
