A one-week discount on fares won't do much to benefit everyday NJ Transit riders. “This fare holiday is a gimmick,” said Alex “CBT for NJT” Ambrose. "This will not substantially help riders who have been suffering under the neglect of transit for decades.” nytimes.com/2024/08/15/nyr…

We have not seen anything to suggest that fewer people are dying in interactions with police. We need to give communities the tools to respond to crises without police intervention. njspotlightnews.org/2024/08/nj-pol…

My best friend's partner and the father of her child was incarcerated. She could not afford to keep them connected in a meaningful way. This is for her daughter and the 1 in 3 families that fall into debt trying to maintain relationships with the people they love.

Stadium development projects are government subsidies for billionaire sports owners with few returns or benefits for communities. “Trying to swipe a stadium back and forth across the river doesn’t actually create more economic development,” said Peter Chen 陳逸群. inquirer.com/real-estate/co…

Today, Lt Governor Tahesha Way signed legislation into law prohibiting discrimination in home appraisals. Appraisal bias has been robbing Black & Latino families of hard-won equity for decades — this is a first step toward repairing those multi-generational harms. fairsharehousing.org/press-release/…

A modest fee on super-luxury homes could raise $600M for critical programs that make NJ more affordable! It’s time for the wealthiest to do their part to address housing inequity and help fund the future we all deserve. #TaxJusticeNJ

A lot of ppl mad at the idea that a $1M home is high-end in NJ. But it decidedly is! Based on 2024 Zillow data, a $1M sale price was above the top 10% of home sales. $2M was above top 2%.

New Census data shows that New Jersey's child poverty rate remained flat at 12.9%. That means 1 in 8 children live in poverty -- less than $30k for a family of 4 in a state with high cost of living. NJ is 2nd among states in median family income, but 18th in child poverty.

New Jersey can and must do more to end child poverty for the 250,000 kids under the poverty line in the state. We need to build on successes like the #ChildTaxCredit and Earned Income Tax Credit, and do more to boost wages and cash benefits for families.
