As a deadlier strain of #mpox spreads to multiple African countries, World Health Organization (WHO), Africa CDC, local governments and partners are further scaling up the response to interrupt disease transmission. But more funding and support for a comprehensive response are needed. I am considering
Pathogen Genomic Lab - INRB bioinformatics team is taking part in these 5 days of lectures, practical sessions, and keynotes on #genomic, #bioinformatics, and #publichealth.
The Pathogen Genomic Lab - INRB bioinformatics team is very happy to be in BrasĂlia 🇧🇷 attending the 28th Viral Evolution and Molecular Epidemiology (VEME2024) workshop, in the evolutionary hypothesis testing and Phylogenetic Inference modules #VEME2024 #VirusEvolution #FiocruzBrasilia #CLIMADE
Clarification on #mpox in #DRC per Placide Mbala of INRB Kinshasa: No evidence so far that clade Ib is more lethal than Ia. Clade Ia—historically in DRC, worse outcomes in children, responsible for most of the 15K cases, current CFR ~3.5%. Clade Ib—detected in South Kivu in
Today the Africa CDC in collaboration with the INRB Pathogen Genomic Lab - INRB started a regional training for lab experts from 7 countries. The training is focused on #Mpox testing, sequencing, and sharing. Regional collaboration is key for mpox response. #AfricaPGI Placide Mbala
#Day2: The lab experts from 7 African countries are working on master mix preparation and amplification. This Regional Training Workshop on #Mpox Testing, Sequencing, and Bioinformatics Analysis is hosted by Institut National de Recherche Biomédicale (INRB) Pathogen Genomic Lab - INRB in collaboration with Africa CDC

Inspirational - the timing of this course shows preparedness. Pathogen Genomic Lab - INRB knew the importance of skilling up for #MPXV testing and sequencing before #mpox became a public health emergency Jason Kindrachuk, PhD Dr. Anne Rimoin Placide Mbala Laurens Liesenborghs
Day #3 of the training focused on molecular detection of mpox using qPCR, sequencing using Illumina and Oxford Nanopore technologies at Pathogen Genomic Lab - INRB Impressed by the dedication of participants & the commitment to scale-up testing & sequencing in their labs EU HERA Gates Foundation
Jason Kindrachuk, PhD Placide Mbala Laurens Liesenborghs MBOTE! Absolutely amazing to be part of this partnership to tackle #mpox in South Kivu #DRC and beyond
What a productive day with the ongoing #Mpox Diagnostic and Sequencing training held at Institut National de Recherche Biomédicale (INRB) in collaboration with Africa CDC. The teams interpreted RT-PCR results, quantified, normalized, prepared libraries and, loaded onto the two Illumina and Oxford Nanopore platforms.
Very happy to have successfully completed this training course on #Mpox diagnosis and sequencing, held at Institut National de Recherche Biomédicale (INRB) Pathogen Genomic Lab - INRB with the participation of 6 African countries. Each country represented at this training received a Monkeypox detection kit from Africa CDC.
