The first music criticism I ever read was reading Joshua Kosman in the Chronicle as a child growing up in the Bay Area. Foundational for me!

10yo does a basketball program that is predominantly black; they practice next to a court used by an entirely white program. White parents constantly get annoyed by black kids crossing into their space, but are currently standing directly in our court to watch their kids. 🙃

If you’re in Philly for IASPM-US at Drexel, I’m chairing a panel on “Philadelphia Scenes” this Friday at 10:30; it looks good and you should come! iaspm-us.wildapricot.org/2024-Conference

I have been using DEI as a slur for years—from the left, obviously, to invoke the way institutions try to avoid structural change by creating superficial meaningless bureaucracy—and it sucks that I can’t do that any more, lol. Republicans ruin everything!

whatever else this change means, I’m genuinely excited for how happy this will make my students when I tell them next week, lol.

speaking of stolen land, the scriptural basis for the promised land is literally described by way of people to be displaced: the Kenites, the Kenizzites, the Kadmonites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaim, the Amorites, the Canaanites and the Girgashites and the Jebusites.
