The tree planting season 2022/23 has now finished, 2530 trees were planted in Portsmouth this year, all of which Trish has registered on the Queen's Green Canopy site. This is a huge achievement for the Charles Dickens Community Orchards and Portsmouth and Southsea Tree Wardens

Sunday 2 April saw us planting crab apples and hazelnuts at Kingston Recreation Park together with Anna Potten Community Development Worker, Tracey Jones of the Stacey Centre, Trish, Dennis, John, Jon and Pauline and other volunteers.

Seven fruit trees were planted on Friday 31 March at the Rudmore Roundabout site. Penny Mordaunt, MP for Portsmouth North, helped with the planting together with Trish, David , John Worley, Jake and Mike and her chauffeur. Then Trish and Dennis moved on to Silver Street.

On Sunday 26 March three replacement cherry trees were planted on the Somerstown Hub rear the adventure playground. Trish, Dennis and John Worley worked hard and John brought some family members along to help. The planting is now restored!

Also on Saturday, Trish ad Dennis went along to White Clouds Park and replaced a vandalised apple tree with a Golden Delicious apple. They then went to Marine Court and replaced a vandalised pear with a vigorous dwarf Cherry tree. The rest of the trees are doing well

On Saturday 25 March, Dennis, Trish and Pauline planted six fruit trees in large tubs with compost and mulch in the courtyard of St George's Halls of Residence, including an Opal plum & a Cox's Orange pippin. We were rewarded with a cuppa and thanks from the resident chef.

10 fruit trees planted on 18 March at Sydney House and King Street with Cllrs Kirsty Mellor, Yinka Adeniram and Cal Corkery, Ian Turner of the Tree Council Major Tree Projects lent a hand as did Tracey from the Stacey Centre garden. Good effort!

There was another great turnout for the Spring Clean on the Green by Marine Court on 12 March. Wilder Eastney, Hampshire and IOW Wildlife Trust, Tree Wardens, Good Gym and Community Orchards joined forces to mulch and prune trees and collect litter and Wassail the fruit trees

On 4 March at Castle View Academy we planted an orchard of 20 trees and a fruiting hedge. The Lord Mayor Hugh Mason, Cllrs Kimberly Barratt and Suzy Horton helped, friends and family. A team from the Queen's Green Canopy made a video.
