It is concerning to see how registered nurses are viewed by UCAT and also some medical colleagues. Nurses are a different profession, framing them as doing the simpler "doctor jobs" or simply saving doctor time is outdated. Framing nurses as capable is not propaganda.

Jason Craig Davidson RN (Adult) (he/they) Dr Tony Goldstone The London Economic Its more complex. ONS occupational categories are not correct for nursing. ONS know this and have agreed to review for next census RN pay is lowest paid of all grad professions in NHS, there has also been a banding downdrift in AFC which is not accounted in these studies I think

Hannah Barnes I simply do not understand this, Hannah. Is there any precedent (that you’re aware of) in which a majority of the 69 members of BMA Council (ie potentially only 35 members) has voted to conduct an academic review of an academic review in medicine? In what sense do they have a

The BMA The BMA have been captured by a group of young transactivists around 2020. I wrote about how this was done here πŸ‘‡ lascapigliata.com/2020/09/18/sex…

Graham Towl Dr Mike Wes Streeting MP Having read the report, it seems there were a number of issues in this case including inadequate nurse staffing and no medical review. I do not support a policy of associate professionals but blaming one of them for systemic issues means those issues receive no attention

ClinOncDoc I would not fit them in without undertaking the modelling first (much as I'm sure you would not treat a patient without staging them). Also defining groups by technical skill is an oversimplification. Also its part of the reason we are in the mess we are currently in.

Prof Alison Leary πŸ’™#ProtectNurse (@alisonleary1) 's Twitter Profile Photo

ClinOncDoc Yes and the reason for that is because demand for associate professionals was never modelling and that people assume workforce modelling is a simple process that requires no specific knowledge.

A significant price has been paid in private to get to this point. The old guard of the RCN are still rallying around those who, in my view, are a disgrace to our profession. Meanwhile, decent members are ostracised. There is still work to be done: theguardian.com/society/2022/o…

.Pat Cullen MP and others in the college did everything they could to support those of us who made a complaint. In my view she, along with the rest of us, was treated with the kind of hostility and rage that is unique to women standing up to bullies.

As someone who has researched the interface between patient safety and workforce for a long time, I am increasingly concerned that a relatively small group (PAs) are being blamed for big systemic safety issues in healthcare. The big issues will continue to go unseen/unexamined

Prof Alison Leary πŸ’™#ProtectNurse (@alisonleary1) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Gaminfunner! I read about the death of a woman recently who had a drain inserted by a PA. Coroners PFD issues were that the drain was not needed (who asked for drain to be inserted? Who was medically supervising patient?) and patient was nursed in an inappropriate area but PA has been blamed

Improve the working environment Deal with pay injustice Stop demoting nurses who need to work flexi/part time Stop employing newly qualified reg nurses as support workers. Stop employing people with no nursing qualifications/experience as senior nurses In short #ValueNursing

Physician associates (a relatively small section of the workforce) often seem blamed for large systemic safety issues. I have researched safety/workforce for years, but we don't see the same attention on long standing safety issues (ie >2000 deaths at a mental health trust)
