From the Freeman's Journal, 1807, referring to the late 18thc:
'...the Castle...was the focus of wealth, taste & grandeur. Italy furnished the statues...,& the paintings to cover the walls; & Paris the looking glasses... All the wits, as well as politicians...assembled there'.

Join us on Sun 5 May to welcome in the Dawn Chorus! This event will proceed rain/hail/shine, except in the case of severe weather. Wear appropriate footwear, warm clothing & bring rain gear. Meet in the courtyard (near tearooms) at 4.30am.
