Prominent climate change denier James Delingpole had a column in The Telegraph for a long time to tell us all how stupid we are for imagining that anything humans can do might change the climate. It’s sort of funny, in a dark kind of a way, to see the mental gymnastics now.

The most beautiful music in the Amazon. It is a true privilege to listen in the forest. The tears kept running from our eyes as the beauty of this song encompassed us.

A little nod to Peter Higgs, to mark his passing. I interviewed him at Cheltenham Science Festival a few years ago, and asked him to sign this silly note, which he was delighted to do! There are only two of these in existence (a certain other Irish comic has the other). RIP.

So pleased to be elected as a fellow of Royal Society of Edinburgh. It's a lovely honour.

Special thanks to my team Climate Change Committee for their support (and especially for the insights they've provided on Scotland's climate progress).

Pleased to say that from June I'll be at MPI-M in Hamburg, working on decadal prediction of heat extremes as part of the 'A Coming Decade' project. I will miss Exeter greatly but I'm looking forward to moving/starting!

If we reduce CO2 emissions in line with a 1.5C pathway (zero emissions around 2050), then the CO2 in the atmosphere will start to decline (even though temperature remains constant with zero emissions).

For now, atmospheric CO2 is rising rather fast...

But is that difference “massive”? Ha.

For some reason, Toby and Chris don’t show what difference it actually makes. How strange!

Also odd is that they don’t tell you that it’s all within the published uncertainties.

Nothing illustrates the vacuity of what passes for climate scepticism in the UK than Matt Ridley retweeting Toby Young who publishes a piece by Chris Morrison based on total bollocks.

Imagine seeing this and thinking the problem was riding a bicycle in a city rather than a transportation system so deadly you need 3-tons of PPE to safely navigate in it.
