“…we don’t tend to view driving through the lens of public health, which shields most of us from thinking about the societal harms and inequities associated with car use.” theverge.com/2023/1/31/2357…

Yes we Khan! For all the politicians who think that running against low-emission zones and low-traffic neighborhoods will win votes, Sadiq Khan's election to a third term as London's mayor is a message that it's time to look for another issue. forbes.com/sites/carltonr…

You couldn’t build Marblehead in Marblehead today… even if Town Meeting passes proposed MBTA Communities zoning changes.

MBTA-C changes, while allowing 3 floors by right here, would still require burdensome parking minimums of 2:1 & other restrictive dimensional requirements.

Planning, smart growth and tax policy experts have been recommending this for decades. Virtually every city has enough land within its existing boundaries to more than accommodate 15 - 25 years of forecast growth. Undertaxing that land encourages sprawl.

The wreckage from the Key Bridge collapse isn't even cleared, and we're already talking about how its replacement needs twice as many lanes.

We're never going to reduce VMT, are we.

Maybe, just maybe, the mainstream media can focus a little less on colleges for a moment. Maybe they can take their cameras to Gaza and show us the emaciated children who are dying of malnutrition due to Netanyahu’s policies. Maybe they can show us the suffering going on there.

As predicted, “infrastructure” act was just a giant highway subsidy. Highway costs rising so fast, there won’t be any money left for anything else.

“Highway construction costs rose an unprecedented 26% in 2022.”

But tell me more about expensive transit.

Calgary refutes every US stereotype about what a high transit city looks like. It's sprawling. It's culturally associated with cowboys and oil drilling. To help its SUV drivers feel they are in touch with nature, its freeways are called trails. And yet ...

“44 communities have worked to pass some form of zoning that would bring them into compliance & sadly I think this narrative is being lost… I’m getting out there to celebrate those communities as we work to address our housing crisis in MA.”

Built in 1920, this 9-unit Marblehead building on a 3,400sf lot has a density of 112 units per acre.

Monday’s town meeting will ask voters to support rezoning just 1% of its total land area to allow for 15 units per acre, in compliance with MBTA Communities.

This is really cool, and will be very nice for cities to have an easier turnkey system to address a new real supplemental requirement for cities that have built out a robust bike network, and want residents to take up cycling.
