Housing shortages are actually housing spillovers.

Everyone needs a home. So when we don't build, demand doesn't evaporate—it floods into other neighborhoods, other cities, other metro areas or even whole regions. 🧵

It's incredible watching leadership in high-cost, low-supply cities continue opposing state housing reforms on the argument that local governments are best suited to solving the problem. You've been saying the same thing for 10+ years! Show me the evidence! We're done waiting.

Just in: The feds are threatening to sue NYC if city vehicles do not stop parking on sidewalks and crosswalks in ways that 'impede the access of people with disabilities to pedestrian pathways,' if you want to talk about an actual ADA lawsuit.

Rent increases are taking longer to moderate in the Northeast and Midwest than in the West and South

'The difference seems to be all about supply. 'There’s really strong overlap right now between the markets that are seeing the biggest rent declines and the ones where there’s

I see the Columbia administration is reacting to current events with its usual blend of wisdom, foresight, and general chillness about student antics.

Amtrak is asking the FRA for a waiver to allow installation of a sensor shunt system to hopefully finally solve the grade crossing signal issues that have led to some Class Is requiring Amtrak trains to tote around empty cars for extra axles. public-inspection.federalregister.gov/2024-08365.pdf…

From the April 1936 Congressional Record, wherein Sens. Walsh (D-MA) and Wagner (D-NY) complain that new PWA housing was not deeply affordable. Soon after, they passed a bill restricting the program to the lowest incomes, which then-advocates cite as a death knell of the program.

'Moretti characterizes being in a large labor market as 'insurance'...It's what sets you up for success to land your next job...Those who moved away from big cities effectively gave up their career insurance.'

On Dec. 1, Boise removed renter bans & parking mandates from backyard cottages (thanks in part to work by Daniel Malarkey for Sightline Institute)

Since then it's issued 95 ADU permits, 8x the previous rate

What's amazing is how many cities haven't done this yet
