The Johns Hopkins Psychedelic Research Center Journal Club is seeking presenters. This is a fantastic opportunity to present original research/ideas on psychedelics and related fields to our group (likeminded in their curiosity but diverse in their backgrounds). Please message if interested!

A major risk factor for believing nonsense about risk factors is not reading this two pager from george davey smith and Andrew Phillips (not on tw?). Open link in next post

Great analysis by Awais Aftab of problems with the widely-shared Guardian article by Rose Cartwright on how she rejected the 'medical model' and turned to underground psychedelic therapy instead. psychiatrymargins.com/p/people-are-s…

I spoke with MindMed CEO Robert Barrow + those close to the co's Ph 2b study of MM120 for GAD to better understand how it 'eliminated' psychotherapy from the protocol.

I touch on common factors, FDA reg. authority, lack of shared lexicon among psychedelic drug devs., etc.

very interesting! Stronger PSIL effect in those who didn't d/c AD but no diff in subj effects b/w those who d/cd and those who didn't

maybe because of AD withdrawal plus it's a different, sicker group of people

I am blown away by this new work from Francesca Fardo and her lab biorxiv.org/content/10.110… - they developed & validated a 2D adaptive model to estimate the thermal grill illusion - it reliably finds combinations of non-painful cold & warm stimuli that together elicit heat pain!

New psychedelic scales: MEQ-4 & CEQ-7. I originally intended them as brief versions of older mystical & challenging experience scales for when time was tight, but data were so strong they are recommended for all MEQ/CEQ assessment. Validation in thread: liebertpub.com/doi/full/10.10…

Thank you Sandeep Nayak for a wonderful visit to Johns Hopkins Psychedelic Research Center. A highlight was to see the session rooms. Incredible to think about the experiences in here over the twenty years. 🍄🪄🧠

Herbert’s “Dune” was filled with Arabic, most of which has been cut from the films in the name of a believable sci-fi world. In my new The New Yorker essay, I explore the art of making fictional languages & what gets lost in the pursuit of speculative realism. newyorker.com/culture/cultur…

It's intriguing that our field mostly can't agree whether or not typical psychological support in psilocybin clinical trials is or is not psychotherapy.

This makes it hard to test whether and how psychotherapy is needed

This one is really a phenomenal effort from Michael Haichin!

He asked an interdisciplinary set of psychedelic researchers two pick one or two of their peers' publications form 2023 that they found particularly interesting and share some comments...
