ALASTAIR CAMPBELL River Wharfe 10,798 hours worth of sewage dumped on 1,687 occasions in 2022.

Only 1 designated bathing spot, in Ilkley, 1 of just 2 stretches of river in England designated. Currently has 'do not swim' advisory due to elevated E. coli level. 😡

In a letter to the The Times and The Sunday Times Jonathan Jones of Westbury explains how he took out a small claims court action against a water company for loss of amenity due to sewage pollution. They agreed to settle for the sum of £550.

Now that is interesting!

Odd that United Utilities were fined less than the money they made.

22bn litres = 22m m3 × £3.053 (price per m3) = £67m.

Fine only £800k

It's worth breaking the law!

The game is up for the privateers as the public realise the con trick of privatisation fails us all. Overwhelming support for renationalisation of energy, rail & water says YouGov poll / FT

HUGE sewage discharge into the River Brent in Ealing. Over 15 hours and still dumping! The Brent feeds into the Thames. This is one of the longest discharges I have seen in London from Thames Water.
Absolutely disgusting.

Something we've been calling for for years - data on sewage discharge volume.

Water companies have hidden their murky practices behind murky data for far too long.

It's time for transparency. It's time for clean rivers and seas

The government has said that the sewage plan does not deal with the illegal discharges of sewage to English and Welsh rivers and that costs of meeting the 1994 law on sewage overflows should not be paid for by customers. wildfish.org/latest-news/go…

Very excited to announce that we have the first version of our *live* river sewage pollution maps.

E.g. top-of-the-poops.org/constituency/b…

In concert with Dr Lipp, of Merton College, Oxford, we show how sewage from currently overflowing CSOs flows downriver.

Why even bother with the facade of the wastewater treatment works? Sewage and inadequately treated wastewater was dumped in the River Irwell 2,385 times in 2022 for a total of 12,939 hours. Wonder why the WCs won’t tell us how much sewage they dump? 🤔 top-of-the-poops.org/waterway/unite…

NEW: Dŵr Cymru’s status has been *downgraded* for a second year running due to sewage.

It’s now rated 2* by Natural Resources Wales which means it “requires improvement”.

The number of sewage pollution incidents have continued to grow over the last few years.

Last week, our CEO James Wallace joined Steve Backshall, Henley Mermaids and Dave Wallace (with kit from Earthwatch Europe) to test for phosphates and nitrates at an outflow on the Thames.

The results were shocking, with nitrates nearly 10 TIMES(‼️) over the acceptable level🤢🤢🧵
