ALASTAIR CAMPBELL River Wharfe 10,798 hours worth of sewage dumped on 1,687 occasions in 2022.
Only 1 designated bathing spot, in Ilkley, 1 of just 2 stretches of river in England designated. Currently has 'do not swim' advisory due to elevated E. coli level. 😡

Great looking ad complete with wild water swimmers for Lloyds Banking Group Shame that United Utilities polluted the River Eden with sewage 1,692 times in 2022 - lasting 11,780 hours. top-poop
In a letter to the The Times and The Sunday Times Jonathan Jones of Westbury explains how he took out a small claims court action against a water company for loss of amenity due to sewage pollution. They agreed to settle for the sum of £550.
Now that is interesting!
Odd that United Utilities were fined less than the money they made.
22bn litres = 22m m3 × £3.053 (price per m3) = £67m.
Fine only £800k
It's worth breaking the law!

Something we've been calling for for years - data on sewage discharge volume.
Water companies have hidden their murky practices behind murky data for far too long.
It's time for transparency. It's time for clean rivers and seas #EndSewagePollution

Why even bother with the facade of the wastewater treatment works? Sewage and inadequately treated wastewater was dumped in the River Irwell 2,385 times in 2022 for a total of 12,939 hours. Wonder why the WCs won’t tell us how much sewage they dump? 🤔 top-of-the-poops.org/waterway/unite…
Last week, our CEO James Wallace joined Steve Backshall, Henley Mermaids and Dave Wallace (with kit from Earthwatch Europe) to test for phosphates and nitrates at an outflow on the Thames.
The results were shocking, with nitrates nearly 10 TIMES(‼️) over the acceptable level🤢🤢🧵
