Think I’ve finished the draft orchestration of scene 4 in #Betrayal .

Need to keep kitty out of the basement for a little while, so no progress today (cuz I don’t want to lock her out when she knows I’m down there working 😻)

Today is the day - HAPPY 13th Annual Dramathon!! We are at full capacity and will have a first come, first serve wait-list at the door.

I know I post a picture like this other years at this time, but irises are my favorite flowers, and they are looking particularly lovely today in our little back-yard garden (although zoomed in the look a little dry, they aren’t 🙂).

Going to the show! AM and I are going to see #TheGlassMenagerie this afternoon. Of course she’s heard most of my music for it already, but not in context. It can be hard to focus on the performance when I’m excited to have her hear each note. She’s such a fan 🥰☺️ & vice versa.

Season One Days 50-51

Almost all #Betrayal all the time. Finished the Scene 4 sketch today. Found nice places to tidy up the libretto for better musical scanning. Still struggling w/ creating multiple horizontal splits from a single measure in #Finale 26 🙂

Curious how much detail composers put into an opera sketch. “Just” a piano reduction? Reduction + vocal lines? I’m finding it hard to not do the latter, though that feels “wrong”. 🫤

Monday nights my wife asks if I got to play anything fun in Swing Band. Last night’s answer “a grand piano 🙂”. Usually we rehearse in the orchestra room which has a competent electronic piano. Last night we were in the choir room, and one could tell where the money is spent!

A pleasant compliment on my #TheGlassMenagerie score is being invited to score incidental music for the next production (in the Fall).

For live music concert: It was a small college theater, practically empty for a Mother Mallard concert. Keith Emerson (from ELP) came on and before his set riffed Honky Tonk Train Blues on a prepared piano used earlier in the night. (en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prepared_…) 🙂

You might mean only concerts? But in a formidable year I watched an adult, nude actor carry a live sheep on stage. And then (the actor) pee all over the character’s sister’s 4H project. In the play “Curse of the Starving Class” by #SamShepard .
