Thanks to MG at Topping & Company Booksellers of Edinburgh and the lovely crowd (lots of Irish accents) last night. Great to see Ian Rankin and Chitra Ramaswamy. Applied Herculean restraint in Toppings and escaped with just one book, Camilla Grudova’s latest collection of short stories, The Coiled Serpent.
Just finished Sinéad Gleeson’s Hagstone. Themes of isolation, community, being an outside, art and the elemental pull of the sea. Magnificent #BookTwitter #Hagstone ps this is the only hagstone I’ve ever found on the beach where I live 🐚
Re: last RT. I read and loved Graeme Thomson's biography of Kate Bush when it was first published in 2010 (to me, it's the definitive KB book). Honoured to have written the foreword for a new updated reissue of Under the Ivy. Out in July, pre-order here: omnibuspress.com/products/kate-…
It was lovely to finally meet Sinéad Gleeson in person last night at her excellent event Topping & Company Booksellers of Edinburgh. I can't wait to read Hagstone, which has already been widely acclaimed.
So enjoyed this production of Muriel Spark’s Girls of Slender Means. Excellent ensemble cast, imaginative staging and costumes you’d run off with. Really evokes penury and coming-of-age in the the London Blitz. On until May 4th at The Lyceum. lyceum.org.uk/events/the-gir…
Lovely to catch up with Sinéad Gleeson on the Edinburgh stop of her Hagstone tour. See her, read her.
Edinburgh tonight to talk about Hagstone. 7.30pm, Topping & Company Booksellers of Edinburgh 🏴 toppingbooks.co.uk/events/edinbur…
The 6 spellbinding novels that make up the 2024 #WomensPrize for Fiction shortlist capture between their pages the enormous breadth of the human experience.
Congratulations to all the authors!

Loved talking to Sinéad Gleeson for Open Book - incl. land art, folklore, women choosing art making over intimacy, sound phenomena & more… plus Adam Smyth on the fascinating history of bookmaking, & Kathryn Scanlan on Moyra Davey’s genre-crossing work: bbc.co.uk/programmes/m00…
#YouAreHere is out! A HUGE (caps) thank you to the brilliant Federico AndornINo and all the team at Sceptre Books, to the authors who gave wonderful quotes, the early readers and everyone coming to events. I'm very proud of this one which, I hope, is funny and passionate and optimistic.
Edinburgh: This Wednesday at Topping & Company Booksellers of Edinburgh. toppingbooks.co.uk/events/edinbur… 4th Estate Books
I finished this today & loved it. I loved the idea of a noise that came from the land only certain people could hear, a noise that affected the body. I felt like the island & Rathglas was a real place I wanted to visit. This is a magical book. Thank you Sinéad Gleeson ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
